Powertrain & Performance
The Mercedes Benz R Class comes equipped with a 3.5 liter DOHC 24 valve V6 petrol engine. The engine produces a maximum torque of 350 Nm that helps bring immediate power delivery for a wide range of engine speed. The powerful Mercedes engine produces a maximum output of 268 bhp @ 6000 rpm.
The V6 engine featured in the new Mercedes crossover vehicle offers outstanding fuel efficiency. The overall fuel efficiency is 11.7kmpl. This comes courtesy the four variable camshafts which are continuously controlled as needed, so that just the right amount of fuel is called upon for the driving situation in question.
The Mercedes Benz family crossover impresses with its fast acceleration and superb speed. With a top speed of 230 kmph, the R Class can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 8.3 seconds. The engine is paired with an intelligent 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission that does complete justice to the driving conditions in India. The transmission is operated through the DIRECT SELECT lever on the steering column. The seven forward gears allow an ideally adapted engine speed at all times, thus cutting fuel consumption, while shorter shift times and smoother shifts make gear changes easier as well as reducing the noise level.

On the whole, the daytime driving lights and front fog lamps ringed in chrome, and the tail light featuring LED and fibre-optic cable technology are not just practical and useful, they accentuate the car's sophisticated look too.

The centre seat can simply be folded down to serve as a comfortable centre armrest. To get to the third row, there's the EASY-ENTRY system. Each of the rear seats too can be folded forward individually. The second row of seats effortlessly accommodate up to three child seats next to each other.
The R-Class' 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive provides impressive traction as well as enhanced directional and driving stability. As 4MATIC is always active, it responds virtually instantaneously in poor weather conditions such as rain. It is assisted by Electronic Stability Program ESP and electronic traction system 4ETS with integral ABS and ASR functions. The AIRMATIC air suspension with adaptive shock absorbers adjusts itself in line with the current road conditions, vehicle load and driving situation. The driver can select either comfort-oriented or sporty settings manually. Or the system will switch to stiffer settings of its own accord, while the level of the car can be altered as required at the touch of a button.
Assistance systems provide additional comfort in the new R-Class. Parking is now child's play, thanks to PARKTRONIC and the reversing camera. It detects and then offers visual signs and acoustic signals if there's enough space available for parking your R-Class.
In the safe driving mode, the car's systems can be activated to prevent an accident. The assistance systems in the R 350 4MATIC can defuse even critical situations. Whether there's the danger of an accident or one can no longer be avoided, the R-Class does everything in its power to provide better protection for the driver and passengers.
The R-Class intelligently activates assistance systems when it senses danger. There is the reversible belt tensioning with the PRE-SAFE positioning function for the front passenger seat together with the optional Memory Package and automatic closing of the open windows and optional sliding sunroof depending on the driving situation and the vehicle equipment.
The R-Class has also been equipped with THERMOTRONIC luxury automatic climate control system, rear climate control, a memory package that stores the driver's seat, steering column and mirror positions, EASY-PACK system and loads of other useful equipment. A sliding sunroof comes as standard. The R-Class' load compartment features luxurious space with a total of up to 2385 litres of load capacity.
Six airbags with two-stage deployment that act based on the projected impact of an accident take safety to new levels. Adding to the safety are sidebags and large windowbags. The crash- responsive NECK-PRO head restraints improve protection for the occupants and help to reduce the risk of whiplash injury.
The Rear Seat Entertainment System comprises a DVD player, two TFT colour displays with a 20.3-cm diagonal on the front head restraints, two sets of wireless headphones, remote control and two Aux-in connections, allowing the rear passengers to watch films or connect a games console during the journey. Both displays can be used independently of one another.
The Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system combines surround sound in Dolby Digital 5.1, a 13-channel DSP sound amplifier, 14 speakers optimized to suit the car interior and a subwoofer. The 3-D stereo sound ensures sheer listening pleasure while the speed-sensitive volume control provides a constant sound impression.
